Mock Driving Test in Reading
More than a pass. Real road confidence.
Driving for life, not for the day.
This isn’t a one-stop shop.

Driving for life, not for the day.
You learn far more than the test asks for — and you can keep coming back for more.
-
→
Confidence is the actual goal.
Nervous, rusty, or starting fresh — we build you up at your pace.
-
→
Advanced driving, built in as standard.
IAM First Class distinction means you're not just learning to pass — you're learning to drive properly.
Skills before subjects.
James teaches using the DVSA's client-centred approach — coached through questions, not just told what to do. What you work out yourself, you actually remember.
Think of it like spinning plates. A learner can only keep two going at once — add a third before the first two are solid, and things wobble. So we build the basics to muscle memory first.
-
01
Core skills first
Master car control in a quiet area first — until it becomes muscle memory.
You’ll learn the core skills in a quiet area before attempting busier roads — so you can control the car without the worry and stress of other road users. With practice these become second nature, and you’re no longer consciously thinking about them at all.
-
02
Steady, structured blocks
Progress through the syllabus in blocks, at your pace — each mastered before the next.
From there you move through the syllabus in steady blocks, at your own pace, with each block achieved before the next begins. You’re never set up to fail by moving on too soon — and once a block is mastered, it stays mastered. No falling behind, no going backwards.
-
03
Then, the subjects
With the basics on autopilot, focus fully on roundabouts, junctions and manoeuvres.
With core skills on autopilot and each block mastered in turn, you’re free to focus fully on the subjects — roundabouts, junctions, manoeuvres — building on solid car control rather than nerves and guesswork.
give you the muscle memory.
make sure nothing is skipped or shaky before you move on.
spare capacity to actually learn each new subject — not fight the basics.
More than car control.
-
Learning to drive isn’t just about handling the vehicle — it’s the habits, attitudes and self-awareness that keep you safe for life. James’s teaching goes beyond car control, helping you understand your own decision-making, spot risky patterns before they become habits, and build judgement that lasts well beyond your test.
-
Good driving isn't muscle memory — it's knowing how to read a situation and correct yourself in the moment. That's what we build lesson by lesson, so you're not just relying on what you were told once, but on skills you can apply for the rest of your driving life.
-
Learning should feel comfortable, not stressful — and for that you need to feel at ease with both your instructor and the car. If something doesn’t feel right, just say so. James would rather know than have you struggle through it, and he’s always happy to suggest an alternative instructor who might suit you better.
-
You’ll work things out for yourself, not just be told. As the DVSA puts it, it’s “about creating a conversation between the learner and the instructor that is based on mutual respect” — because what you discover yourself, you actually keep.
-
Every lesson plan builds on the last, picking up exactly where you left off. At the start of each lesson you set your own goals with James, so you know what you’re working towards and why. Completing your reflective log on the student app afterwards is what makes sure the next lesson carries on seamlessly — so every session is real value and real progress, never repeating ground or drifting without direction.
Safe car.
Calm teacher.
No panic.
Whether it’s your first time behind the wheel or you’re shaking off the rust — you’re looked after.
IAM RoadSmart First Class Distinction.
James holds a First Class distinction in his advanced driving assessment — so techniques like block gear changing, limit point analysis, and advanced observation are built into every lesson as standard.
Dual Control Car, Serviced & Insured.
The car comes fitted with a manual handbrake and anti-rollback tech as standard — but James teaches proper hill-start technique from day one, so you'll be just as confident in any car.
Track Your Progress.
Every learner gets access to a student app — track progress, log reflections, and grab extra lesson slots as they come up. Parents can follow along too, so there's no guesswork and no repeated ground.
2-Hour Minimum Lessons.
All lessons are a minimum of 2 hours — more time on the road, less re-covering old ground, and faster progress to test.
We Come to You, When It Suits You.
Door-to-door pickup and drop-off included with every lesson — evenings and Saturdays available for those fitting lessons around school, college, or work.
Your Regular Slot, Guaranteed.
Book the same day and time each week so you're never scrambling for availability — consistency builds confidence.
Parents — Honest updates after lessons, the app to see how they’re getting on, and if it helps put everyone at ease, you’re welcome in the car too. Happy to chat anytime.
Everything you need to know.

Get in touch via the contact form, WhatsApp, or phone — James will get back to you quickly to sort a time that works. No pressure, no commitment just for asking.
-
Not at all. Complete beginners are welcome and lessons are structured to build confidence from the ground up — there's no assumed knowledge and no rush.
-
All lessons are a minimum of 2 hours. Shorter sessions don't give enough time to properly build and consolidate skills — you'll make faster progress and get better value from longer time on the road.
-
All lessons are in manual — which is actually the better choice for most learners. A manual licence covers you for both manual and automatic, whereas an automatic licence restricts you to automatic only. You'll have far more flexibility on the road for life.
-
Yes — door-to-door pickup and drop-off is included with every lesson. Evenings and Saturdays are available too, so lessons can fit around school, college, or work.
-
You'll learn in James's car — fully dual-controlled, regularly serviced, and insured. It's fitted with a manual handbrake and anti-rollback tech, but you'll be taught proper technique so you're confident in any car, not just this one.
-
Yes, and it's one of the most common reasons people get in touch. Lessons go at your pace with no pressure — building real confidence is the goal, not just getting through the test.

Cash, bank transfer, or Monzo — whatever's easiest. No hidden fees, and block hours are paid upfront at the discounted rate.
-
Lessons purchased as part of a discounted block are priced on the basis that the full block will be completed. If a refund is requested part-way through, any lessons already taken will be recalculated at the full, non-discounted rate, and the refund will be calculated pro-rata on the remaining balance.

That's really common, and it's actually where this approach helps most. Rather than just correcting you each time, James helps you notice what's happening yourself — so the fix sticks, instead of the habit creeping back in a few weeks later.
-
This really depends on the individual student — everyone learns at a different pace. The DVSA average suggests around 67 hours of total road experience, made up of roughly 45 hours with a professional instructor and 22 hours of private practice.
With our Skills Before Subjects approach, most learners get there quicker than average. Instead of ticking off syllabus topics in order, we focus on building the core skills that make every other part of driving click faster — so lessons go further and progress feels quicker.
Everyone's different though, so we'll always give you an honest, realistic estimate once we've done a few lessons together and can see how you're progressing. -
The single biggest thing you can do is drive as many hours as possible outside of your lessons, alongside a fully qualified supervising driver (aged 21+, held a full licence for at least 3 years).
Real experience behind the wheel between lessons means less time spent recapping what we covered last time — so we can spend our lesson time pushing you forward instead of going back over old ground. The more seat time you rack up privately, the faster your progress will be with me.
